Kankakee MSH Camp
Three of the employes who stayed with ten patients during the second and last week-long camp, held in early September at the hospital's Kankakee River State Park campsite, share morning coffee with the cook, a patient. The Malcolm X Community Mental Health Center Advisory Council is pictured together with key officials on the Subzone 11 Program shortly before return to Chicago following their visit and tour of inspection at the hospital. They were accompanied by Miss Doris Lomax (far left), director of community organization for the Chicago mental health zone. Kneeling (left) is Dr. Dusan Gojkovich, clinical psychiatric consultant for all Subzone 11 programs, including the Malcolm X Community Mental Health Center. W.C. Anas Luqman, a leader of this Council and founder of the Malcolm X Black Hand Society, stands directly behind him and Miss Joan Myers, director of the Singer 6 Hykelawn Program is behind him. Mrs. Mary Goff, coordinator of the adult area of the Guidelines administrator, is at their right. Anthony Overton, assistant ward administrator with the Hykelawn Program, is at far right. Manteno State Hospital's Bowling League ended May 3, with the Carters as champions by one-half game over Gordon's Funeral Home team. Dr. Severino Gomilla (at patient's head) is anesthesiologist. Dr. Rivera said no patient has ever died during an operation here.
