Manteno State Hospital Power Plant

Size of the two new boilers is illustrated by comparing them with men in the foreground. Steam-driven mechanisms operate all moving parts of these boilers. Chute angling in from left feeds coal from a moving stoker below. Pipe running up in center dark area denotes division of the two boilers. Men are Edmund Guth (left), operating engineer, and Clyde Winstead, stationary fireman.

The Commissary Lounge

For employees, patients and visiting relatives. Note the paintings on the walls, flowers on the tables and other decorations which have transformed that room into an extremely attractive location, especially for patients who wish to visit with their relatives. Activity Therapy Associate Helen Lindsay (standing at rear), who is in charge here is responsible for decorating this room and other parts of the commissary.

(Now, "Caps on Campus", a catering business which also serves meals and includes a small bar.)
