This welcome
sign showing Manteno State Hospital was under the Department
of Public Welfare was not changed until 1961 when the
state institutions of this type became part of the newly
activated Illinois Department of Mental Health. This
photo was taken sometime between Jan. 12, 1953 and Jan
11, 1961, when Gov. Stratton was in office. |

in the Forbes Center patio to see that all the paintings

Patients
from five wards of the Carriel building at the Manteno
State Hospital attend a luncheon and picnic held in
the courtyard between wings of the building. Residents
on these wards are a part of the hospital's geriatrics
program, totaling more than 2,900 patients. Geriatrics
admissions represent sixty per cent of the hospital's
population. Many of these residents receive physical
rehabilitation treatment. |
